Greeley County Schools USD #200 Meeting Minutes

Unnapproved minutes of the regular meeting of USD #200 Board of Education held February 13, 2023 at  6:00 PM. 

Board members: Brent Foster-Tarman, Jessica Alexander, Sheryl Crotinger, Shea Stewart, Ginger Gibson, Kenton Mangan, and Shanon Schneider. Superintendent John Niehues and Clerk Katie Zerr were present. 

Meeting was called to order by President Shea Stewart.

Motion was made by Ginger Gibson to approve the agenda. Seconded by Sheryl Crotinger; Motion carried 6-0.

Motion was made by Kenton Mangan to approve the minutes from January 9th, 2023 with a correction. Seconded by Jessica Alexander; Motion carried 6-0.

Motion was made by Shea Stewart to pay expenditures and transfer $7,586.76 to Bilingual, $4,876.26 to Vocation Education, $3,144.40 to At Risk 4 year old, and $29,792.13 to At Risk. Seconded by Sheryl Crotinger; Motion carried 6-0.

Shanon Schneider arrived at 6:16 pm.

Superintendent John Niehues reported on PreK-5 and district matters. Topics discussed were as follows: HVAC project moving ahead of schedule, plumbing issue, capital outlay projects, health insurance, scoreboard replaced applications, PLC training, current legislation, state testing, and congrats to Quinn Kleymann on winning the spelling bee.

Motion was made by Shea Stewart for the Board, Superintendent John Niehues, and Clerk Katie Zerr to enter executive session for 15 minutes for the purpose of discussing individual employee’s performance pursuant to non-elected personnel exception under KOMA; and the board will return to open session at 6:39 pm in this room. The executive session is required to protect the privacy interests of the individuals to be discussed. Seconded by Kenton Mangan; motion carried 7-0.

HVAC project is running ahead of schedule. 

Motion was made by Brent Foster to renew health insurance plan with 

Blue Cross Blue Shield. Seconded by Sheryl Crotinger, motion carried 7-0.

Motion was made by Kenton Mangan to accept Rachel Wiggs resignation at the end of the 2022-2023 school year. Seconded by Brent Foster; motion carried 7-0.

Motion was made by Sheryl Crotinger to accept Sloan Shafer’s resignation. Seconded by Jessica Alexander; motion carried 7-0.

The board discussed supplementals.

Openings we are advertising are for an elementary teacher, PE teacher, and certified HS science. We have had some interest.

Motion was made by Kenton Mangan to have Jessica Alexander and Shea Stewart serve on the negotiations team. Seconded by Sheryl Crotinger, motion carried 7-0.

Ginger Gibson presented on Northwest Teach affiliating with FHSU.

Meeting adjourned at 7:18 P.M.

The Greeley County Jackrabbits swept the state tournament again this year, claiming a 49-43 win over the Lebo Wolves to earn the 2023 1A-Division II Championship game for the second year in a row. The team entered the tournament as the number one seed, with a record of 22-1.
