Members of the Greeley County Junior High Wrestling team competed at the NWKL Tournament on Tuesday, February 21, in St. Francis.
Mallory Walk competed in the Girls 138 pound weight bracket. She wrestled against girls from Oberlin and Leoti in her weight bracket. She had some tough competition and walked away with a 3rd place finish.
Mia Reynolds competed in the Girls 160 pound weight bracket. She wrestled against two girls from St. Francis. Mia fought tough and walked away with a first place finish. The Greeley County Girls placed 4th as a team for the league meet.
The Junior High Wrestling team finished their season on Thursday, February 23rd at the end-of-the-season Oakley Scramble.
Both girls wrestled against the same girls from Oakley and Leoti.
Mallory Walk went 0-2 for the day. She is a tough little girl and has really improved since the beginning of the season. Mallory is a strong girl and is working hard to perfect her technique.
The Oakley girl that we wrestled against was Miss Zoey Myers. Zoey grew up here in Tribune, she is the daughter of Corbin and Morgan Myers. It was fun to encounter Zoey through the season and we wish her the best of luck.
Mia Reynolds went 1-1, she has really grown her knowledge of the sport and is one tough cookie. It was a day of tough competition for both girls, but a fun environment to end the season with.
I am beyond proud of all of my Junior High Wrestlers for the season. Many of them had never seen a wrestling match before. I am proud of their courage to step out of their comfort zone to try something new. Practices were always a blast with this crew and I enjoyed listening to them sing at the top of their lungs to and from meets. I want to send out a big thank you to High School Wrestling Coach David Miller for helping me get going this season and for all of his support. I have really enjoyed coaching this season and I look forward to what the future holds for each one of them.
