Bonnie Jean Larkin, 81, died January 9, 2025, at Greeley County Long Term Care in Tribune. She was born September 25, 1943, in Great Bend, the daughter of Benjamin Franklin and Edna Gasena (Behrens) Appel.
Bonnie was a long time Greensburg, Kansas resident. She attended Fort Hays State University. She was a homemaker. Her memberships included the Sorella Club, the First United Methodist Church – United Methodist Women, taught 2-year-olds Sunday School, and Tuesday morning Bible study. Bonnie was a 4-H Project Leader and a member of the Kiowa County Fair Board and helped with Kids for Christ, all in Greensburg.
On August 25, 1963, Bonnie married Gilbert Mark Larkin in Garfield. He preceded her in death September 3, 2021.
She is survived by a son Nathaniel Mark Larkin and wife Lisa, Horace; a daughter Melinda Norman and husband Tom, Hutchinson; three grandchildren Joshua Mark Larkin, Hutchinson; Jami Jean Richardson and husband Marcus, Haven; and Kaci Rae Webb, Spokane, Washington, two Great-grandsons Grayson Mark Larkin and Gunner Lee Larkin, two brothers Robert Appel and wife Pat, Anna, Texas and Benjamin Appel, Jr. and wife Elaine, Kansas City, Kansas, two sisters-in-law, Martha Appel, Larned, Kansas and Evelyn Grimm, Greensburg.
Bonnie was also preceded in death by great-grandson Tate Richard Larkin, two brothers Harley and Kenneth Appel, and a sister Shirley Stephens.
A funeral service and celebration of Bonnie’s life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 18, 2025, at Fleener Funeral Home in Greensburg with Pastor Dennis Erwin presiding. Burial will follow in Fairview Cemetery, Greensburg. Visitation will be 5:00-7:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
