Daryl Eugene Miller

Daryl Eugene Miller, 79, of Tribune, Kansas, passed away peacefully on January 12, 2026, following a year long battle with cancer.

Daryl was born on November 2, 1946, to Jesse James Miller and Gladys Gill Miller. The youngest of five children he was a lifelong resident of Tribune. He graduated from Greeley County High School and Goodland Vo-Tech. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and spent four years stationed in Germany.

On April 13, 1969, Daryl married his high school sweetheart, Gail Vogt Miller, who survives and resides in Tribune. Together they raised three sons: Shawn Glenn (Missy) of Denver, Colorado; David Alan (Melissa) of Tribune, Kansas; and Jess Adam of Sharon Springs, Kansas. Daryl was a devoted grandfather to Avery, Quinn, and Lily Miller (children of Shawn and Missy), and Haley, Nathan, and Jacob Miller (children of David and Melissa). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews and by his brother, Harlan Miller, of Lawrence, Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Juanita Grubb, Bernice Kenneweg, and Carol Ann Crook; and his brother-in-law, Robert Michael Vogt.

Daryl worked for many years at Farmco Inc. as a chemical and fertilizer specialist and branch manager. After retiring, he became a partner in Leoti AG and later worked for Nutrien. Following his second retirement, he served as an active board member of both the Melvin O. Kuder Senior Center and the Horace Greeley Museum.

The Senior Center became the hub of Daryl’s life, where friendships flourished through games, pranks, friendly insults, and competition. He enjoyed fishing, shooting, and woodworking in his beloved garage. Daryl was always helping others—offering advice on crop production, improving yields, troubleshooting farm problems, sharpening knives, or giving people a first or second chance through employment.

He spent countless days clearing snow, helping with yard work, and opening his home to young people who often found a second family there—some staying for extended periods. Daryl continued offering crop advice until near the end of his life. He remained humble, quick with a joke, and fiercely loyal to his friends. He loved feeding his family and entertaining his grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Daryl truly embodied the definition of a “good guy.”

At his request, cremation has taken place. He asked that there be no formal funeral, but instead a celebration with “loud music” and “lots of stories.” His family will honor this wish at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Melvin O. Kuder Senior Center and may be sent to Koons-Russell Funeral Home, 211 N. Main Ave., Goodland, KS 67735.
