Rosalie Abney

Rosalie Abney (nee Nemechek), aged 84, passed away peacefully on October 16, 2024, at the Hospice House & Homecare in Hutchinson. She was born in Tribune to Joe and Rosie Nemechek. She was a proud resident of Tribune and was a graduate of Greeley County High School.

Rose was a single and dedicated mother to four boys. Also, she worked for the Kansas Department of Transportation where she eventually became the first female supervisor in the state. She held this position until her retirement. During her retirement years, she would volunteer at the local thrift store to pass her time. Ultimately, she would move from Tribune to be closer to her grandchildren.

Surviving children of Rose are Joe (Sheila) Holmes of Houston, Texas; Tim (Jan) Holmes of Ogden, Utah; Don (Aniceia) Holmes of Deltona, Florida; and Jeff (Stephanie) Holmes of Hutchinson. 

Rose has 12 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. Surviving siblings are Frank (Karen) Nemechek and Don Nemechek of Tribune. She was preceded in death by her parents Joe and Rosie Nemechek, a brother, Larry Nemechek, a granddaughter Stephanie Holmes, and a great grandson James Tarrant. 

A celebration of life is being planned for late spring of 2025 to take place in Tribune.
