Bobbie “Bob” Troutman

A memorial service for longtime Lamar resident Bobbie Troutman, affectionately known to his family and friends as Bob, was held on Saturday, February 24, 2024 at the Peacock Family Chapel with Tim Douglas officiating. Inurnment followed at Fairmount Cemetery in the Veteran’s Section with full military honors under the auspices of the local V.F.W. and American Legion posts.  

 Bobbie Lee Troutman was born on February 03, 1928, northwest of Altoona to Harry and Odessa (Cline) Troutman. Bob had three brothers, Keith, Herman and Jack.

Bob attended Kelly Elementary School and graduated from the 8th grade in 1943. At this time the Troutman family moved to Piefer Ranch near Benedict where Bob attended a year of high school. The following year the family had moved to Hatler District where Bob finished high school at the Altoona Rural High School in 1947.

During the summer of 1947, Bob worked in Dodge City for Joe and Maxine Converse. When the fall and winter months came, he worked on a Bridge Gang for the Sante Fe Railroad. In April of 1948, Bob went to work for Cecil and Leonia Sebastian in Tribune until the summer ended. He then worked the winter months at South Side Service in Tribune for Dave Palmer and Grady Sebastian.

In November of 1950, while Bob was helping put a roof on the 4-H building he got his letter saying that he had been drafted by Uncle Sam into the Army. Bob served in Korea and was a Corporal with the 21st AAA Battery D. He was honorably discharged from the Army on August 21, 1952.

On September 5, 1953 Bob was married to Margaret Ann Wiles at Nowata, Oklahoma. To this union two children were born, son Cecil in June of 1954 in Neodesha, Kansas and daughter Lee Ann in June of 1957 in Tribune.

Bob was working at Standard Oil in Neodesha and during layoffs he would work at Boeing in Wichita. After the second layoff in January of 1955, Bob, Margaret and 6-month-old son, Cecil, went west to Tribune where he worked for Cecil Sebastian north of Tribune, Kansas.

In May of 1958, the family moved into the town of Tribune and Bob began work at South Side Service until 1961 when he started working for Sunflower Telephone Company as a repairman. 

In August of 1962 the family moved to Sheridan Lake, Colorado while Bob continued working for Sunflower Telephone Company. He also enjoyed helping coach summer baseball and girls’ softball at the Plainview School. 

In November of 1982, Bob and Margaret moved back to Tribune where Bob retired in July of 1987 after working 26 years for Sunflower Telephone Company. Bob and Margaret found the perfect little house with a front door facing the south in Lamar, Colorado and moved into it in October of 2002.

On February 15, 2024 Bob went to his forever home in Heaven at the age of 96.

 Bob is preceded in death by his parents, siblings Keith, Herman, and Jack Troutman.

He is survived by his wife Margaret Troutman of the family home in Lamar, CO, children Cecil (Dee) Troutman of Williamsburg, CO and Lee Ann (Mike) Brooks of Lamar, CO, grandchildren Mindy (Kenny) Davis of Lamar, CO, Jenny (Josh) Watson of Stephenville, TX, Shawn (Alissa) Brooks of Colorado Springs, CO, and Jeremiah (Nicole) Troutman of Stephenville, TX, great grandchildren Joshua (Savannah) Davis, Blake Davis, Branden Davis, Joel Davis, Magi Watson, Maci (Caine) Watson-Brown, Lanie Watson, Christopher Brooks, Jonathon Brooks, Case Troutman, Hesston Troutman and Abilene Troutman. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other family and a host of friends.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Tribune Kansas V.F.W. Post 7521, Lamar Christian Church and/charity of choice either direct or in care of the funeral home office.
