Dale Eugene Appl, age 90, passed away on April 29, 2023, at his home in Leoti. He was born on May 3, 1932, to Martinus and Violet (Elder) Appl in Leoti. He was a farmer and rancher as well as a past member of the Leoti Lions Club and the Antique Car Club. He loved farming as much as he loved flying and showing everyone his farm from the air. Anyone who knew him knew that he was both candid and ornery. 
On March 30, 1952, Dale married Dorothea J. (Van Winkle) Appl in Dodge City. She survives. 
Dale is survived by his wife, three daughters: Julie Carpenter of Leoti, Trish and Bryan Brunswig of WaKeeney, and Kathy and Darin Graff of Neodesha; seven grandchildren: Cole and Bridgette Carpenter, Shala and Kevan Steele, Tyler and Cheyann McClayland, Lacey and Alex Detwiler, Cara and Josh Gunderson, Ty and Courtney Brunswig, Tia and Logan Mattheyer; and fifteen great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, one sister Katheryn Taylor, one brother Keith Appl, and one son-in-law Charlie Carpenter. 
Funeral services will be on Thursday, May 4, 2023, at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Leoti with Mike Deschner presiding.  Burial will follow at the Leoti Cemetery.
Visitation will be on May 2, 2023, from 12:00 until 8:00 p.m. and May 3, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Price and Sons Funeral home at 4th and J St. in Leoti.
Memorials may be given to the “Wichita County Long Term Care” or the “Museum of the Great Plains” in care of Price and Sons Funeral Home, PO Box 161, Leoti, Kansas 67861.
