Venita Fankhauser (née Stewart), aged 89, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2026, in Meridian, Idaho. Born on September 3, 1936, in Littlefield, Texas, Venita lived a life filled with love, dedication, and community.
Venita met the love of her life, Paul Fankhauser, during their high school years in Tribune. Together, they embarked on an adventurous journey that led them to Blackfoot, Idaho. There, they built a life surrounded by a close-knit community that became one of their greatest joys. Venita and Paul shared a deep bond until his passing and created a legacy of love and resilience that continues through their family.
Venita was a devoted mother to her children: Julie Galstad (David), Jana Fankhauser (Garreth), Jenifer Breshears and Robert Fankhauser (Shannon). She cherished her role as a grandmother to Akasha (Justin), Val, Triston (Hana), Morgan (Kenzie), Anuja and her great-grandson Gus. Her family was the center of her world; she fiercely defended them and embraced every moment spent together. She also shared a special connection with her brother Duke and her niece Cheryl.
Preceding Venita in death were her beloved husband Paul; her parents Edna Mae and Hack Stewart; and her brother JT. Their memories remained close to her heart throughout her life.
A woman of quiet strength and unwavering loyalty, Venita was deeply involved in her community and found great fulfillment in serving others. She was an active member of the Jason Lee Memorial United Methodist Church and dedicated herself to volunteering at the local library. Her bridge club brought her joy and camaraderie over the years. Known for hosting unforgettable holiday feasts for her family—complete with her famous TV mix—Venita’s kitchen was always busy and filled with warmth and laughter.
Venita had a unique ability to form lifelong friendships once she got to know someone. Though reserved at first meeting, she quickly became a steadfast friend who could be counted on for support and kindness. Her gentle laughter among loved ones was a hallmark of her personality.
Her grandchildren held a special place in her heart; she delighted in spending quality time with them whenever possible. Venita committed to and reluctantly cared for the pets she inherited from her children over the years, the pets loved her best.
The world is undoubtedly dimmer without Venita’s strength, love, and quiet humor. Her memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
May we find comfort in remembering the remarkable woman she was—a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, and pillar of her community. We’ll miss you, Mom.
A Memorial Service will be held on March 20, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Jason Lee Memorial United Methodist Church 168 S. University Ave; Blackfoot, Idaho.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Jason Lee Memorial United Methodist Church in honor of Venita Fankhauser.
