Opal M. Bare, 90, of Tribune, passed away peacefully on December 24, 2025, at the Greeley County Long Term Care facility.
Opal was born on December 26, 1934, in Tribune to Carl and Annie Bare. From an early age, she carried a quiet sense of adventure that would guide her through a life rich with experiences and change. After graduating high school, Opal set out to see more of the world, living in places such as Los Angeles, California; Dodge City; and Ordway, Colorado, before eventually returning home to Tribune, the town that always held her heart.
Opal had a special love for baking and cooking and was known for filling her home with the comforting smells of fresh breads, cookies, and family favorites. She was a wonderful housekeeper and remarkably creative with small spaces, always making her home feel warm, welcoming, and full of care. In so many ways, her home was a reflection of who she was: gentle, thoughtful, and full of heart.
Opal was a woman of resilience, warmth, and steady grace. Her journey was not without hardship, yet she faced every chapter with strength and dignity. Those who knew her will remember her gentle presence, her thoughtful nature, and the way she made people feel seen and valued.
She is lovingly survived by her sister, Betty Bougsty of Arizona; her brother, Teddy of Aurora, Colorado; her grandchildren: Justin Hamann of Austin, Texas; Naomi Walls of Sharon Springs; Duane Hand of Aberdeen, South Dakota; and Amanda Hand of Virginia; along with her five cherished great-grandchildren: Maria, Layne, Quincie, Tehya, and Kelly.
Opal was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Annie Bare; her son Karl; her daughter Karla; and her siblings Sonny Bare, Lois Rowe, and Mary Ann Fischer.
Opal’s family would like to extend special thanks to Sandy Wilcox, whose friendship meant so much to Opal during her time at the retirement community. Sandy’s constant presence and kindness, especially in the years following Opal’s stroke, brought comfort and companionship when it was needed most.
They also offer their deepest gratitude to Julie Lawrence, Opal’s daughter-in-law, whose unwavering compassion and devotion never wavered, even after Julie and Karl went their separate ways. Her care, patience, and love were nothing short of extraordinary, and Opal was profoundly blessed to have her in her life.
Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 2, 2026, at Price & Sons Funeral Home, 322 2nd Street in Tribune with Pastor Jeri Farmer-Smith presiding. Interment followed at the Greeley County Cemetery.
